Crossroads

I started with pencil to sketch out the overall shapes. Then, I used watercolor to fill in colors and shadows. The work is then exported to Procreate in order to add on additional shadows and lighting.

This work reflects on my personal experience of fitting in to society. After moving to a new environment, I find that many experiences and customs I am used to is different compared to the social norm. I tried to express this through the idea of skateboarding and the crossroad which symbolizes a cross in culture. Skateboarding was a common interest that I shared with many others but yet, the stickers reflect on my personal culture and experience. I used watercolor in order to achieve the vibrant colors of contrast and added digital effects to make the shadows stand out.

To me, creativity means a way of self expression. Everyone expresses creativity differently base on their personal experience. Creativity is a way for me to share with others my understanding of the world around me by combining it with my experience and understanding.
