Come To Life

Trea L.

I used regular and colored pencils to sketch on paper, then transferred it on shrink plastic to bake in the oven.

  • I drew my two original characters inspired by a taro milk tea and a pumpkin spice latte on shrink plastic. It’s a medium I'm still adjusting to, as you have to sketch and color on a large surface and prepare for it to shrink around a quarter of its size when you bake it. I mainly used colored pencils, and after they hardened I placed them on my history notes because I initially conjured them up by doodling in class and craving a sweet treat. With their forms being on pins, it creates a 3D effect like they're popping up from the paper. I punched holes on top of the pins to turn them into keychains, so they can live life on my bag and see the world beyond my notebook margins.

  • As someone who plans to pursue a STEM field and enjoys the academic rigor, creative outlets are my way balancing my activities and areas of my mind. I find creativity in making music, performing, dancing, and drawing, and they remind myself that life is an experience I should enjoy.
