Comforting Hands

  • This piece is a self-portrait being gently comforted by three glowing hands. These hands symbolize the safety, strength, and comfort I find in my loved ones. The light cuts through the darkness and bring clarity into my life. I was originally inspired to draw this because of my experience with anxiety and the way my family helped guide me through the worst of it. Through this drawing, I wanted to explore how our loved ones can steady and ground us even when it feels like everything is going wrong and we want to give up. It’s a reminder to myself that I am never truly alone in my struggles and that my family and friends will always be there to bring me out and show me the light. It’s a reassurance to both myself and to others that there are people who support us and our struggles won’t stay forever.

  • Creativity is whale sharks. It’s the courage in the deep breath I take before drawing something unique and making myself vulnerable. It’s my imagination in seeing the world differently from how I’m told to see it. It’s the dreams I have of cats turning into butterflies and flying whale sharks.
