• Artist Statement

  In a world filled with rampant consumerism, I try to minimize the waste of my old items. This tote bag was sewn from two pairs of jeans I outgrew in an effort to breathe new life into something I could no longer use. While cutting, pinning, and sewing this bag together, I thought about the importance of questioning our consumptive reflexes. Through this project, I wanted to highlight the importance of resisting the “throw away and buy something new” mindset, and to show that sustainability begins with changing our everyday habits.

  To me, creativity is the ability to express your unique humanity. We all come from different backgrounds and past experiences, which in turn shape our creative expressions in all forms of art.
