Ekko's Love

Claire D.

  • Ekko's Love is inspired by cyber-punk and the longing of a doomed love story. I begin this piece by using low synth, violoncellos and electric bass to create depth in space, a rhythmic, humming foundation akin to the concrete, clocks and metal of a vast futuristic city. The sopranos and altos add haunting humanity to this metallic world - and for the 3 measures that they sing entirely alone, they represent the introspection of human love in an impersonal society. Trombone sings out with Ekko’s voice in a longing melodic line. The next section is a conversation between Ekko and his love, between past and present. This conversation fades into a piano solo - joy and youthful innocence. Then, the truth of a dystopian reality comes crashing back with forceful synths. Ekko’s Love ends with only piano and voice, nostalgic past and present humanity, imbuing a sense of introspection and dissonant acceptance.

  • Creativity means being given the freedom to explore. Creativity means time to look into my own emotions and delve into a world of my own creation, a space of quiet, tranquil reflection in an otherwise very busy and loud world. It's both a tool and an escape.
