Focal Point

Bekah G.

Glass

  • For years I struggled to find art that represented my experiences with my gender identity. So many trans stories have been lost to a history of oppression against the community. When blowing glass this summer I was inspired to create a piece to represent my community while showing how much of our stories get erased. I chose to make the scars the focal point because trans people are often seen as trans first, everything else after. My identity often feels like it’s become the focal point of my life. The two different busts represent different people viewing their transness. Not everyone embraces their scars with pride. However, no matter ones feelings they are still judged and affected by their gender identity.

  • Creativity means making something related to your unique experience in life.
