From the Fields To The Bay

Raymond H.

Charcoal, Watercolor, Gouache, Charcoal Pencil, Ink

  • For this drawing, I was showing myself exploring the fields of Vietnam and my heritage. In the background is the skyline of San Francisco. I wanted to explore my heritage through the clothing, I was wearing and also my Asian American Identity. The clothing was the emphasis as it was an Ao dai which was a long silk dress. I wanted to capture the texture and the bright vividness of the silk patterns. Through this drawing, I wanted to portray two sides of me, my Vietnamese and American identity. I first set up a composition and created a charcoal background then sketched the characters.

  • Creativity means to me what I love to do which is drawing. I love to explore art and many different fields of creativity.
