Preserving Remains

Sneha T.

Charcoal, graphite pencil, & watercolor

  • This piece portrays a bold South Asian woman emerging from ancient cave paintings, symbolizing the endurance and evolution of my 5,000 year old culture. The cave paintings were inspired by traditional Sri Lankan art and cave paintings. The fusion of modern, realistic, and traditional art styles reflect the depth, complexity, and continuity of heritage through time. This resilience of my culture is what inspires me to keep it alive, through learning recipes, adopting the art styles, wearing the attire, and learning to speaking Tamil.

  • Creativity is the rawest form of unfiltered, vulnerable self expression. The "out of ordinary" is often embraced, and it allows me to reflect on deeply personal themes like navigating adolescents and culture through art. By observing my unique creative style, I've learned more about who I am as a person.
