The theme of our class project was “Star Power”. We learned about figures in history, specifically people of color, who with blood, sweat, tears, and passion paved the way for opportunities that seemed so out of reach to them, so today’s youth could not only dream of it but achieve it. I picked Anna May Wong’s story to highlight the injustice she had faced in the film industry, because even when reading through interviews and watching black and white silent pictures, the elegance and passion she had for her art as an actress was so real. Despite being the first Chinese American woman to be a film star and falling victim to Hays Code Hollywood throughout her career, she never failed to keep her head up and achieve her dreams.

Being creative to me is really just being present with yourself and to enjoy whatever that is you do or want to do. But I think it is to also be truthful with yourself.
