Garden Bloom (Teapot)

Carys M.

Stoneware, low fire glazes, coil build

  • I created this teapot for a project in my ceramics class. The project was to build a teapot with a design of our choice. My teapot is inspired by the Huntington Botanical Gardens in Los Angeles. I was inspired by the very beautiful and colorful flowers in the gardens, the stunning greenery, and the abundant wildlife. When I visited the Botanical Gardens, the seasons were beginning their transition into summertime. The sky was a perfect shade of light blue and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. There was a stillness in the air and I felt truly calm. There was a slight breeze and I could hear the buzzing of bees. I was reminded of this calm quiet moment during the construction of my teapot and it is what inspired me to create my piece.

  • Creativity, to me, describes the ability to create artwork that is original and meaningful. Creativity means using your imagination to create something that is authentic to yourself. A creative piece is meant to invoke emotion and reflection. Being creative means creating art that is genuine, thoughtful, expressive, and inventive.
