Holding on to home

Alex L.

Watercolor

  • My painting is a landscape painting of sandstone which is a type of rock at the marin headlands. I picked this landscape because of the qualities of the rock being fragile and crumbly much like the state of the country of Honduras's economy after American companies used their resources for profit, however the rock is overall strong and remains together despite being vulnerable. The ink I decided to use is a woman holding a kite flying in the air. The woman is supposed to illustrate my mother on a journey after considering she wanted better and that the United States had that. The kite being held represents the people and things from home my mom held on to during her long journey away from home. The process was a battle of passion and emotion for me because of the challenges faced and overcame in the process.

  • To me creativity means to find a way that connects to you and your emotions so that you can feel freedom to express yourself however it fits you through your personal connection to your creativity you have the chance to connect to others similarly to you.
