Home Away from Home

  • The culture that colors your past can not be stifled by the passage of time. Slowly, intently, and inevitably, between oceans and between generations, my heritage as an Asian American shines through. From the San Francisco Chinatown, immigrants fill the streets, keeping the traditions alive. In my own home, my mom’s Chinese-style dishes and our bright red and gold decorations during New Years tie my American identity back to her roots. This is the message I want to convey with my artwork. I capture these aspects with the warm yellows and reds that illuminate the blue buildings and the use of construction paper that breaks the silhouette of a typical illustration. Using a variety of mediums, I convey that a mix between old traditions and new ones can create something magical.

  • Creativity means seeing the world through fresh eyes and allowing your audience to both understand and feel a connection between your works and your perspectives. It’s the freedom to experiment, to make mistakes, and to tell stories that words can't capture alone.
