• Artist Statement

  In most cases, doves symbolize peace in artwork. I wasn’t entirely aware of this when I started painting them, but now, I think it adds to the meaning of the work. The woman looks up slightly at the doves, indicating that they resemble hope. The fact that doves also represent peace indicates what the woman may be hopeful for. Next, I chose my mother as a subject for my work because I like the way her skin folds around her eyes, and I find her nose fun to draw.

• Creative Statement

  To me, creativity is the ability to come up with entirely new ideas or build off of old ideas without being told how to think. Creativity is thinking outside the box in an original manner.
