"How to Hold Your Hand" embodies the feeling of really liking someone but having no idea what you're doing. I grew up in a family of jazz musicians—my grandpa is a jazz pianist and my mom is a jazz vocalist. Having been surrounded by jazz my entire life, I was deeply inspired by the sounds of Bossa Nova when writing this song. This song is an homage to my jazz upbringing (in fact, my grandpa is the one playing piano on the track!) Whenever I write songs, I always start with a chord progression. From there, I improvise melodies and lyrics until something sticks. “How to Hold Your Hand” is improvised in the same vein of having to improvise in a new and exciting relationship.
