I cannot write poems

Sharanya C.

  • Poetry has always been a constant in my life. Whether it was reading my first fairy tales as a child, reading other teens' poems as a middle schooler for comfort, or tackling poems in foreign languages in high school, it has always fascinated me. However, poetry, unlike other forms of writing, has personally gotten harder for me to write over the years; something about laying out words in an original and vulnerable way, while simultaneously staying concise, challenges and intimidates me. I initially created this poem just for fun, as a comedic jab towards my struggles in poetry. However, nowadays it reminds me to stay motivated and keep writing, even when I’m writing pieces I think are irredeemable. This poem reminds me that it’s ok to write silly and bad stuff sometimes; not everything I make will be good, but as long as I keep practicing, I will eventually improve.

  • Creativity is the mind's way of trying to understand itself and the world. It's an expression of new ideas and new perspectives, often through unconventional means. It is the giver of innovation. It is the emblem of humanity. Creativity is the prism that disperses the light of rational thought.
