Interlaced

Aashi G.

Acrylic paint, canvas paper, string, hot glue

  • This piece, inspired by a childhood photograph of my sister and I, explores how memory, family, and identity are woven together over time. By translating this photograph into a woven painting, I aimed to emphasize the fragility and fragmentation of early memories, how they blur, tangle, and overlap as we grow older. The tapestry format becomes a metaphor for the shared experiences that bind us as siblings: tiny moments, unnoticed then, that become foundational later. The woven structure physically disrupts the image, suggesting that even when memories fade or distort, the relationship remains interlaced beneath the surface. Ultimately, this work honors the enduring bond between sisters and the childhood that continues to shape who we are, even as we move forward into increasingly separate lives.

  • To me creativity means having a way to express my feelings as someone who normally bottles them up. My creations are my rawest thoughts and passions brought to life. I create based on what is weighing on me in the moment and I value having a creative outlet so deeply.
