Little Traveler

Nikita G.

carved rubber for printing, ink, colorful tissue paper, color pencils, blending stumps, acrylic paint

  • This piece is based on a childhood photo of me at an airport, a place that always felt exciting because it meant going somewhere new. I used colored pencil to draw myself, acrylic paint for the background color, tissue paper to build the wings, and a rubber stamp I carved to create the repeating butterfly pattern. I added wings and butterflies to connect the memory of traveling with the idea of adventure. I kept details like my messy hair, mismatched clothes, and the way I was standing because they show the childhood innocence I had at that age. By combining these materials, I wanted to capture a moment when I wasn’t thinking about how I lookedI was just present, curious, and ready for whatever came next!

  • To me, creativity means making something that comes from my own thinking, not from Pinterest or Google. I like sitting with my ideas and asking myself what I truly want to create. When I think of something I haven’t seen before, that’s when I feel the most creative!
