My painting is of rock called chert that forms in layers of plankton skeletons compressed under the ocean’s pressure, but the metaphor I chose for my painting is talus. Talus are fragments of rock broken down from an outcrop, which is exposed bedrock that is part of the solid foundation underneath everything. Talus accumulates at the bottom of the outcrop it broke away from. I chose talus because I can compare the way talus is formed to my family and the events in our history that made them migrate to a new country. For the ink on my painting I chose an image of a family of three walking forward. It's meant to illustrate the people leaving their home country, pulled to find better opportunities. I chose this picture because it represents my dad’s journey with my grandparents and how they first arrived in this country seeking a better life.

Creativity to me means being open minded and always open to trying things. To me it means being good at solving things and being good at finding new ways to solve them. To me it means being able to recognize ideas and bring everything together to solve it.
