I wrote "Love Habits" when my sister left for college. Growing up, we were very close, spending a lot of time together and telling each other everything. I was worried that when she left for college she would meet new people and replace me. In the song, I talk about the habits I developed from living with her my whole life, such as setting her place at the table and expecting messy counters. I also talk about the habits I have developed since she left, like staying up all night and crying. Through this central theme in the song, I convey her importance to me and my fear of at some point lacking importance to her. I wrote the song on guitar and later produced it on ProTools using digital instruments. I wanted the song to build slowly over time to convey both vulnerability and strong emotion.
