Manipulation 1

  • I photographed this piece at dusk in the East Bay using my Nikon D3300, right as summer was ending. My first image shows yellow dandelions surrounded by sharp green plants and their withered companions, while the second focuses on purple flowers that represent the sadness of manipulation. I timed my walk to catch the sunset for a low-exposure assignment, but when I found these flowers, I raised the exposure instead to reveal what manipulation often hides.Through these two photographs, I explore how manipulation shifts between softness and severity. The bright dandelions create a contrast to the darker emotional tone of the purple flowers, showing how manipulation can appear gentle yet feel sharp. In both pieces, I want my audience to experience the discomfort of recognizing that something beautiful can have an unsettling truth behind it—like looking at a painting that seems inviting but carries a hidden motive beneath its surface.

  • Creativity for me means an outlet from the world that celebrates the practical. Creativity isn't about math, or science, or finance, but the poetry, the literature, the paintings, and the thoughts on paper that create culture and society. Creativity is a strength in my eyes, and I love it.
