Marimba solo : Bach cello suite no.3 Prelude

Joshua H.

  • Bach never wrote a single note for the marimba—hardly surprising, since the instrument is one of the newest voices in the musical world. Yet as a marimba player, I’m convinced that if he had encountered its warm resonance and earthy glow, he would have fallen in love with it and composed endlessly for its vibrant palette. In this performance, I’ve tried to honor the spirit of the original cello work while letting the marimba’s own character breathe freely. Its wooden bars invite a broader, more radiant soundscape, allowing Bach’s phrases to unfold with new colors and dimensions. I loved exploring that magical intersection where centuries-old music meets an instrument born much later, creating a bridge between time and timbre. Close your eyes, and let the waves of sound carry you—Bach’s genius reshaped through the marimba’s organic voice, offering an experience both familiar and entirely new.

  • Creativity begins with our first cry, a tiny spark announcing we’re alive. As a musician, I follow that spark into sound—where rhythm becomes movement, melody becomes emotion, and every note blends art and science. In music, I rediscover the language we’re all born knowing, from deep within the human spirit.
