This piece is a direct reference to the Haitian Revolution, also known as the Slave Revolt. It lasted from 1791 to 1804, with the Haitian’s outcome being successful. The composition itself is heavily referenced off of another existing depiction of the rebellion (Incendie de la Plaine du Cap - Massacre des Blancs par les Noirs), but I added my own twist to it and used metaphors to describe the Haitians as zebras and the French as lions. I used these animals, because lions and zebras are naturally predator and prey and they depicted the power imbalance that the Haitians and the French had in that time period.

Creativity means being able to come up with something that is yours from ideas or other inspiration. It also means doing the work yourself and putting effort, pushing through the hard parts and finishing with a piece that has a journey of ups and downs that’s personal to the artist.
