These four photographs are selected from Millbrae 2023. The work places itself in the landscape tradition after New Topographics, focusing on urban surfaces used in everyday life and continually reshaped. At the same time, it responds to a “new realist” condition in which reality is no longer a directly graspable whole, but appears as fragments processed by technology that must be re-identified. This work depicts the “Living Spaces” sign in Millbrae’s city plaza, which replaced the Office Depot that closed during the pandemic, La Quinta Hotel(San Mateo County once planned to purchase this hotel and convert it into a shelter for the homeless, but locals strongly objected against this project and was scrapped after the county failed to secure funding), the Recreational Center that was rebuilt after a major fire, and the housing project built on the former parking lot of the Millbrae BART station.

To me, creativity means expressing your thoughts to the world, presenting people with a unique view or opinion on an idea. I believe that through creative expression, mankind has ultimately built a master narrative from all of the different views shared throughout time.
