Mortar Memoir

W. Patrick E.

  • I wrote this poem in response to a folk band I'd seen at a local music festival. I was inspired by the captivating, intensely descriptive lyrics. I had realised that my poetry thus far hadn’t had interesting imagery, or anything like I had heard. So I tried writing a poem with deep metaphor that explored the ideas of memory and identity I often ponder. Writing this rejuvenated my appreciation for the storytellers before me, and I know that the attentive reader will, too.

  • Creativity is the virtue of the ability to make new things out of the already made. As a Christian, I believe that it is an intrinsic expression of us being made in the Image of God.
