My Mothers Journey

Adamari L.

Watercolor

  • I wanted to illustrate my mom’s journey coming to the United States as a young girl who didn't know what to do and decided to migrate due to problems at home. I decided to paint the Pinnacles volcano because it's a volcano that was split into two different parts. The volcano illustrates my mom splitting/moving away from her country and making her journey to a new place. In my ink drawing I drew a young woman looking behind her shoulder to represent my mom looking back home and into her past but still walking into her future to build a better life. My mother’s journey has taught me to know that, even if I'm going through things, I have to keep my head up because there are better things coming in my future and that's why I chose to illustrate my mom.

  • To me, creativity means to be able to express your feelings or tell a story about something that's significant not only to me but to people who are able to relate to me.
