novelty memories

Summer S.

Graphite pencil and Acrylic Paint

  • This is a still life depicting two novelty watches me and my sister received from my grandparents when we went back to the Philippines after I had immigrated. The name of my piece comes from the fact that the watches are novelty, meaning they cannot actually tell the time and are more a symbol of happiness than wealth, but also relating to how, whenever I wear my watch, the memories of my grandparents and content life back home feel fresh-- a novelty.

  • Creativity is an extension of oneself. To me, it is an ability to grasp phenomena you find around you and interpret the world through visual media.
