O del mio dolce ardor

Saurab G.

  • To prepare for my performance, I work with my voice instructor (of 3 years) for weeks beforehand (often in preparation for SF-BAC NATS Classical singing competition, held annually). Together we work on maintaining the resonance of my voice throughout the song, and making sure that the breath and phrasing is accurate to the intention of the piece. At home on my own I prepare with language study of the Italian, making sure to understand and pronounce each word correctly, and I study the genre as a whole by looking at other performances of the song. I approach the song with respect, as something with a 250-year, living legacy that continues through its singers.

  • Creativity is expressive, imaginative, and individualistic. It allows performers like me to make the works of others that we perform our own, even imbuing new meaning into the piece through changes in emphases or through subtle changes in dynamics that apply new emotions to the same text or lyrics.
