Peace in the Abandoned

Minna O.

I used Sumi ink, a caligraphy brush, and paper.

  • I have always been fascinated with the exploration of new media. Ink is a material I have little experience with, but I am drawn to its whimsical, bold mark and unassuming technicality. This piece taught me to let go of perfectionism and embrace the serendipitous. I did not follow a sketch, and at first I was afraid of the permanence of each brushstroke, but I learned to trust my intuition. I hope that you can feel the purposefulness of every mark.

  • Creativity means expressing myself authentically in a way that brings me joy. It means using my imagination and my experiences to create something original. I am putting something personal out into the world and being vulnerable in hopes that others can appreciate what I have made and be inspired.
