• Artist Statement

  The reason why I made this is because I heard the penny was being discontinued, so I decided to immortalize this useless coin in my poem. This idea connects to my artistic process, as I receive random ideas at random times, and then I write. These ideas often come from places or random objects that give me inspiration. For example, the penny. Around the time I got the idea to write about this coin, we were writing 100 word stories in class, so I decided it was the perfect opportunity. This penny story is about the fear of being forgotten, and feeling as though everything is worthless. I love using inanimate objects to convey complex human emotions, and this piece is just that.
