Romantic Pursuit

Hope E.

Clay, under-glaze, glaze

  • This piece is inspired by faces forming in places where they wouldn't normally be, and romantic imagery like the little doily hearts seen around Valentine’s Day. I glazed it pink, because I wanted it to be cute and whimsical, and red because it’s a passionate, indulgent color. This piece represents how we can let a romantic view of the world envelope us, "romanticize our lives” by seeing things in a more exciting, whimsical way. When you build your love for what's around you, and find people who make you excited and enchanted to be around them, you begin to see everything through rose colored glasses. This is the feeling I tried to show in this piece with the face being a heart itself. I ended up sculpting the facial features from life, the nose is based off mine but most of the face ending up looking somewhat similar to mine.

  • I find that creativity is mostly about expressing myself and finding an interesting physical way to do that-- whether that be through ceramics, my nails, drawing, or creating fun outfits.
