Scarbo - Gaspard de la Nuit composed by Maurice Ravel

Scarbo is the night goblin in Aloysius Bertrand’s Gaspard de la nuit. He slips into a room, swells until he looms over the bed, rattles tiny bells, then shrinks and melts into moonlight. He appears, vanishes, and returns closer, until fear blurs dream and waking. My story goes on from there. I make sudden jumps between glare and shadow by using sharp, jittery lines that look like claws. Fast layers are laid down and then scraped off, leaving behind shapes that look like Scarbo's fingerprints. I repeat small circles and ticks to make the sound of bells and a clock that is racing. When you move, metallic flecks catch the light and make brief appearances. I want people to feel a presence that never fully comes.

Creativity is the courage to shape complex emotion and refine it to extremes. It involves taking bold and innovative choices with dogmatic drive. Creativity enables the most direct transfer of complex emotion to other people.
