Four Personalities: I.Yellow, IV.Red

Andrew K.

  • Four Personalities: I. Yellow, IV. Red by Alyssa Morris is a work that explores the spectrum of human mood through juxtaposing movements. The first movement, "Yellow", dives into a jazzy and playful mood—the bright, witty energy expressed through light articulation and note-bending. In contrast, "Red" channels intensity and passion, demanding nimble technique and firmness. Preparing this piece was both a musical and intellectual journey: I analyzed how tone, style, and phrasing could embody each color’s character. Crafting reeds that matched the style of each movement was essential to evoking the “personalities” of the oboe. Through this performance, I aim to portray how contrasting moods—elegance, warmth, joy and fury—create various personalities, revealing how sound and color intertwine to express identity.

  • Creativity, to me, means exploring the unknown territory of art and breaking boundaries. In other words, it involves that one should invent something fresh, attractive, and unusual. It also means generating new ideas, thinking outside the box, and exploring new paths that others haven't dared to pursue.
