Colored pencil and mixed media collage on paper

  • This piece captures a small but cherished tradition in my life: getting boba with friends after long, tiring weeks of school. I wanted it to feel like a memory suspended in time–soft pinks and purples wash over the whole scene, reenvisioning an ordinary made-up boba shop as a cozy, dreamlike refuge. The three figures in the center are my friends and I, clustered around the table with our drinks, the heart of the moment. By collaging colored pencil with real photos, I aimed to blur the boundary between lived experience and the way we curate it. I hope to portray friendship as a “happy bubble”: a safe space where we can be silly, share stories, and let the weight of the week slip away. It celebrates the small, everyday moments that don’t seem monumental at the time, yet become the ones we hold onto the tightest.

  • To me, creativity means producing work that grows out of my own thoughts, feelings, and observations. Although I sometimes struggle with creativity, I believe that it can be developed through practice, curiosity, and reflection–thus, I will keep pushing myself to bring my own perspective and style into my pieces.
