Figure drawings using graphite pencils are what I am most comfortable with as a creative, so moving to a different medium was no easy task. However, I wanted this experience to be transformative for me as I want to expand my horizons to become a better artist. With “Still Forming” being my first piece with oil paint sticks, it was really frustrating to create this piece, as it was unknown territory. I’m so used to the responsive and clear movements of pencils that it’s hard for me to understand how to use these paint sticks properly. Also, with the challenge of a new, larger scale, I still made something that mirrors my journey to go bigger with a new medium. Ultimately, adopting the idea that this piece is a milestone and that I am still forming will help me continue to grow as an artist.

Creativity to me means the idea to make something from your own mind, almost like a superpower. You think of a great idea and express it on paper, then you have given life to something new. Then learning from nature and people will lead to improved creativity towards art.
