The Aftermath

When I am upset, I write poetry. I put my thoughts into poems to make space in my head and share my message with the world. These two poems are about war. War is painful and tragic and affects the whole world. My poem Two Sides to a Bittersweet Coin is a true story reflecting my family history and how we were shaped by war. Through these poems I shine light on the aftermath of war, on the devastation that continues even after the battle has been won. I show how war is not only in the moment, it becomes a presence that lasts throughout generations and never truly goes away.

To me, creativity lives in the childlike part of your brain; the part that never grows up. It whispers its ideas and input in a singsong way, happy and carefree. If you give it freedom, it grows up healthy and strong. If it's disciplined, it matures and quietly fades away.
