The Hunger

Olivia V.

  • The Hunger is a collection that explores the voracious nature of desire and starving for connection. It begins with Starving Girls, a piece centered on greed and the duality of hunger: a physical starvation and a desperate need for love that causes one to try and "swallow the sun". Poet’s Lament shifts the perspective to the artist, who loves too much or not enough. To be a muse is to be golden, but to be golden is to be caged—captured incorrectly in words rather than truly seen. Finally, Letters from a Hedonist is a commentary on the prevalence of easy intimate relations. Fruit wasn't meant to be pre-peeled and that rushing intimacy only makes it taste terrible, like acetone. Together, these pieces show the difference between being nourished and merely being consumed.

  • Creativity is the ability to bring forth things from your dreams into the world.
