The Imaginary Number

Shirley L.

  • This screenplay is something reminiscent of the overall feel of the Twilight Zone TV Show. It is a surrealist magical realism screenplay. In it, we are introduced to Calpurnia Summers, a lonely girl whose only companion is Calpurnia, her imaginary friend. Dealing with a workaholic mother and a hostile environment at school, she feels isolated and increasingly relies on Calpurnia, considering Calpurnia as her closest friend. Her increasing contempt for her existing life causes her to take up Calpurnia's offer on fixing all her problems by taking her to a special place.

  • Creativity is taking knowledge you have attained before, and reassembling them to make something new, effectively producing new knowledge. Thus, creativity is the ability to picture something new. Translating it into real life is a skill, but creativity is something everyone can achieve with enough freedom.
