• Artist Statement

  With this artwork, I wanted to do an exploration of various ethnic groups in China, and explore their cultural clothing and its intricacies. I saw this picture of girls belonging to the Miao ethnic group, and loved the intricacy of the threading, and the large silver headpieces. My artistic style always focuses on the small intricacies and details, showcased through the adorned jewelry headpieces and threaded clothing. The intricacy of the large headpieces and their heavy weight, yet the proud stature of the girls, showcase how they stand tall despite perhaps the pressure they receive in society. I hope you enjoy the detail drawn into the headpieces and clothing, and how each girl solemnly stares forward, beautiful and proud.
