  • Prolonged middle school bullying caused me to eat lunch in bathroom stalls alone. The only entertainment I had was the incessant, live podcasts of drama and news around me, dispersed by numerous girls fixing their makeup in front of the mirrors. I was able to absorb every detail, sound, or event that I heard, similar to a black hole sucking in light. I incorporated deep, endless black details and pupils to symbolize my newfound ability of soaking in information. Additionally, the stars and freckles of light in my eyes represent my daydreams, fantasies, and inner worlds I constructed to keep myself company, transforming loneliness into galaxies of imagination. Through vivid purples, blues, and pinks that oscillate between ethereal and bruised, my piece blurs the dimensions of sorrow and transcendence, portraying how even solitude can evolve into expansion.

  • Creativity is a combination of intellect and sensation–a disciplined yet poetic process that gives voice to unspoken words or suppressed feelings. Through deliberate thought and use of aesthetics, creativity constructs meaning from the ineffable, allowing emotion to materialize as beauty and truth through creation.
