The Sickness Divides, Mourning You

Stella B.

  • Both poems come from places where I’ve felt voiceless, overwhelmed, and forced to grow up too fast. The first piece comes from the frustration of watching issues that should be about genuine morals become arguments instead of acts of care. While writing it, I kept feeling how grief gets dismissed as “debate,” and how young people are expected to stay quiet even when these tragedies shape our futures. This poem was my way of refusing silence. The second poem comes from a quieter kind of pain. The kind you carry after being abused by someone you once loved. I wanted to capture the confusion of missing a person who caused harm, and the way teens often normalize toxic relationships. Writing it helped me work through the grief of letting go of who I thought they were. Both pieces reflect the messy, emotional process of healing and finding my voice.

  • Creativity is the ability to hear your own voice in a loud world and express it honestly. It’s using your originality to shape unique ideas, inspire yourself, and spark something in others. It’s choosing authenticity over noise and allowing your true perspective to lead yourself through life.
