• Artist Statement

  While whale-watching in Monterey, our tour stumbled upon a rare sight: three Humpback whales swimming up to surrounding boats and bobbing their heads up and down. When one swam up to us, I captured this photograph of its alien-like head, attempting to convey its magnitude while highlighting the depth of its features, such as the tubercles.
