Tranquil Canyon

Jessica C.

Chinese Brush, Japanese Ink, Xuan Paper, Holbein Watercolor

  • This Chinese Painting, Tranquil Canyon is created using traditional techniques used to portray expansive and vast landscapes. The painting was first done with multiple layers of ink sketch and was subsequently dyed four times to achieve the soft haze and clouds. Creating this piece allowed me to connect more deeply with my Chinese heritage as I learned new traditional techniques and immersed into a unique process of creating this landscape.

  • Creativity means to be able to apply the techniques learnt to help ideas come alive; it is an ability to adapt an idea into reality through imagination and style. In the case of Chinese Painting, I am able to achieve original landscapes through tradition techniques and personal expression.
