Under the Knife

  • My piece explores my self-critical relationship with myself. The idea of perfection is something everyone hopes to obtain, but when we feel close to our ideal self, there always seems to be something about us that prevents us from reaching it. The bright background, surgical gloves, and scalpel play into a surgery motif. Unlike other methods of altercation, surgery gives a more sterile, precise, and permanent feel to the idea. The vignetted corners and harsh background give a sense of claustrophobia, where the viewers’ watchful eyes immediately close in on the subject. The danger hovers close to the subject, yet the eyes remain determined and unafraid.

  • Creativity is a way to say things I can’t find the words to say out loud. It lets my feelings speak for themselves and connect with others on an emotional level despite no words being spoken.
