Underground Jesus

A while ago my friends and I decided to explore and photograph a long abandoned railroad tunnel. After putting on fishing waders and squeezing through a small hole in the steel wall blocking the entrance, we discovered the tunnel was more flooded than we thought and the water quickly swamped my friend's boots. When we got to the other end of the tunnel we found it had been sealed with a concrete wall and reinforced with massive tree trunks. I set up my tripod as close to the wall as possible, set up a light behind my friend and took this photo. The lighting and my friend's long hair made me think of how Jesus is usually portrayed in paintings, hence the name “Underground Jesus”.

What creativity means to me is documenting places and subcultures overlooked by society and manipulating light and composition to create an interesting scene.
