Unrequited Love

Clay

  • Unrequited Love displays how despite efforts to love somebody, you can ultimately end up hurting them. I chose to create a hand squeezing a heart to show how pressure, even when it comes from longing, can become harmful. Both subjects, the heart and the hand, fall victim to pain as one tenses around the other and one becomes misshapen and strained. This dynamic creates an unhealthy cycle as love becomes something forced, leaving the heart bruised and the hand exhausted. I chose clay because it allowed me to shape expressive textures and subtle details. I built the two separately, starting with the heart and then molding the hand around it. By doing this, it allowed me to bend and press the fingers into the clay heart, creating tension lines and stress marks. The clay let me physically imitate the feeling of stress, mirroring exactly what I wanted in my theme.

  • Creativity means everything and anything. It means I can do what I want, be what I want, and make what I want. Being creative isn’t limited to any area, it’s simply adding a little bit of you in the process of whatever you touch.
