  • The Last Hen is based on the experiences my grandparents had during the Cultural Revolution in China, where people were extremely poor, hungry, and oppressed. It encompasses the tough emotions a young girl goes through as her parents are being taken away by the Red Guards, punished for owning a hen. That hen was their only source of food and the last glimmer of hope her family had before surrendering to the government. The Last Hen is more than just an animal, it is a symbol of humanity surviving beneath a ruthless dictatorship, as the nation is consumed by control.

  • To me, creativity is a method of self expression, something that allows me to delve deep into my inner workings and transfer my emotions into forms of art. It is a way to communicate my meaning and understanding of concepts in a way that my audible words have trouble doing.
