Vicarious

Alex G.

Acrylic paint, oil pastel

  • The context behind piece is that I was an identical twin to a brother who died shortly after birth. I chose to represent our relationship by creating a portrait of the two of us. The idea revolves around the vicarious connection I have with him almost as if we are sharing a life he never fully got to experience. The symbolism in this piece was deliberately left minimal with the goal of letting the viewer interpret the piece however they please.

  • I find creativity to be a form of expression that's both deeply personal as well as open to interpretation by an audience. It can be a shared expression of my emotions, or it can just be something originally created merely to exist, never to be seen or experienced by anyone.
