Fragments of Reality is a graphite art piece drawn from a picture that I took. It depicts the power of a woman’s voice when it has been silenced for too long. The cracks radiating outward from the center illustrates the reality-shattering effect that this power has on the world. The piece shows how society diminishes the opinions of women and silences their thoughts, much like how a static image is trapped in a photograph. In this way, when women finally speak up, their words shatter that static image into fragments of emotion, feeling, and hurt. Each crack that divides the image represents the anger that women have been keeping within themselves since the beginning of their lives and their oppression. By speaking out with their own thoughts and opinions, women break apart the barriers that surround them.

Creativity is the ability to think, build, and climb outside of the box. It is the language in which we share our ideas that are too crazy, too ambitious, or too weird. With it, we are able to tap into our deeply innate desire for the new and inspiring.
