We Fail To Notice

Katelyn C.

  • We Fail to Notice is about the quiet, persistent pain that goes unnoticed day in and day out. The poem contemplates how mental health struggles are minimized or overlooked by society or individuals, through repetitions and stark imagery. I wanted to capture the looping nature of internal suffering-how it returns again and again, even when ignored. The piece confronts the consequences of dismissal, highlighting how emotional pain can escalate when support is absent. By depicting subtle physical and emotional unraveling, I aim to show the urgency of noticing, listening, and validating others before harm becomes visible. This poem is a call for awareness, empathy, and recognition of battles many fight in silence.

  • To me, creativity means using my imagination to make new ideas. It’s thinking in my own way, trying different things, and finding simple solutions to problems. Creativity helps me express my feelings, understand the world better, and see possibilities I might have missed before.
