Yggdrasil’s Peril

Camille Y.

Acrylic paint

  • This painting represents growth. Growth of the world tree (represented by the woman) . In the painting you see the woman surrounded by destruction; she represents the sacred tree Yggdrasil that holds the universe up in Norse mythology, during Ragnarok. The dragon, Nidhogg, who has spent a millennia gnawing on the roots of Yggdrasil, is let loose and causes destruction. The fire giant Surtr (represented by the blade at Yggdrasil’s throat) engulfs the universe in flames. The giant wolf Fenrir is also set loose and ends up killing Odin, the guy who is hanging from Yggdrasils “branches”. Despite all of this, Yggdrasil is later reborn and the universe is restored. The strongest growth tends to happen in spite of hard times.

  • To me, creativity is more than just something people use once and awhile, but instead a whole unique state of mind. Everybody has the potential to open their minds to it, though not all people do. When it does happen, I believe it reflects who you are as a person.
